So you want to make french press coffee? It really isn’t difficult assuming that you have the correct equipment and some basic instructions to help you get started. The first time that I ever made french press coffee it came out ‘pretty alright’, I would have been happy with it having a little more extracted flavor – but the point is it isn’t hard to get started in. I just wish I had instructions like these because my life would have been so much easier.
- Grind your coffee grounds course. This way you ensure that the coffee grounds won’t float back up through the wire mesh after the plunge – if you aren’t grinding your own coffee you need to make sure that you are buying coffee ground for a french press. Anyone working in the specialty coffee community will know to grind your beans course.
- Put two grams of coffee for every ounce of water that you will be using into the french press, pour the hot water over the coffee grounds as soon as you can. The longer the coffee grounds are waiting, the more time they have to go stale.
- Heat your water to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, not boiling. Boiling water under extracts, so either use a thermometer or just boil the water and let it sit for almost a minute before brewing. This will bring your water to the right temperature.
- Like they explain here, after the first minute of brewing the coffee with the water you should stir up the slurry. This will allow for a more thorough extraction, which will result in a tastier cup of coffee.
- After another three minutes you can finally plunge the wire mesh down, trapping the coffee grounds below and leaving behind a delicious pot of french press coffee.

One of the best ways to get rid of moss in your lawn is by using a thatching machine. Sometimes this machine is also referred to as a dethatcher or a power rake. If you’re going to get rid of moss, you should do the following steps:
First of all, you want to make sure supply a light layer of iron moss killer to your entire lawn. Then, allow the iron to soak in for 7 to 10 days. During this time it should have the effect of killing most of the moss, or at least most of the moss on the surface that it comes in contact with. After this 10 day time frame, then you want to use your dethatching machine to go in and get rid of the moss that is left. You will probably find that the moss just below the surface is still alive. You’ll want to go over your entire lawn at least twice. Once crosswise and once lengthwise. This will allow you to cut perpendicularly across the lawn and remove most of the moss. The reason why the moss comes out so quickly is because it doesn’t have very deep roots. The power rake will not tear out the lawn, but it will do a great job at turning out the moss and the unhealthy parts of the lawn that aren’t supposed to be there. If you have St. Augustine grasses, bank grass, or creeping grasses, it is probably a good idea to use a thatcher on your lawn at least once every four or five years to help you get rid of the buildup. If it builds up too quickly, it can choke out all of the healthy grass on your lawn. Another tip is to make sure to seed your lawn with Shade seed in the winter. The wintertime is generally when the moss grows much faster than the grass and takes over. If you have shade seed, your seats should still grow just fine during the winter and it should help to keep the moss out of your grass.
